Simone was joined by her teammates, Leanne Wong, Skye Blakey, Joscelyn Roberson and Shilese Jones in the team final. Wong had to fill Roberson in the vault and floor, after she suffered an ankle injury.

Simone recorded 14.800 in the vault, 14.466 on the bars and 14.300 on the beam in the first three apparatus. In the floor section she performed her twists and turns with elan, and got a score of 15.166. The team combined 167.729 points in the total score.

With this win, Biles now has 26 world championship medals, 20 gold, three silver and three bronze. This is her first competition back on the world stage since she pulled out of Tokyo 2020 Games, after suffering from “twisties’”, a mental block causing loss of track of the positions midair.

On Friday (6), Biles will take part in the women’s individual all-around final, as well as the women’s vault and uneven bars finals on Saturday (7), followed by the balance beam and floor exercise finals on Sunday (8).
