According to a spokesman, Alpha Tauri expects Ricciardo to be back for the next race, in Austin, Texas. The team wants to give him “a bit more time” to recover. He already spent some time in the Red Bull simulator after the race in Japan a few weeks ago, and they decided to be cautious about his return.

The Australian was brought back to the grid to replace Nyck De Vries who was sacked. He raced in the Hungarian GP, but two rounds later crashed in TL2 at Zandvoort, the Dutch GP. He ended up with a fracture in his left hand, and had to undergo immediate surgery.

Ricciardo has already been confirmed as Alpha Tauri’s driver for 2024, despite having only done two races before suffering the injury. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda is also confirmed as a driver for next season, and Liam Lawson will be the reserve driver.
