UCI director suggests cyclocross World Cup in New York

During the meeting of the Management Committee of the last Cyclocross competition, the director of sports of the UCI, Peter van den Abeele, informed that he is interested in bringing new cycling matches to New York and that he was talking to sponsors about the possibility. Furthermore, he stated that the 2023-2024 calendar was not ready yet.

Recently, when the World Cup schedule was released to athletes, the UCI was criticized for having made the organization of the competition too rigid, with races every weekend until September, close to the date of the biggest professional match.

“There are still issues to be resolved. There is always discussion about the number of races. I don’t think there are many, but we have to keep expanding to the big cities and we have to keep the classics”, said Peter van den Abeele when asked about the athletes’ criticism.
