Four British cyclists earn stars on the Walk of Fame

This week, at an annual celebratory dinner in Manchester, it was announced that British Cycling had nominated four British cyclists for a spot on the Walk of Fame. The athletes who will be honored are: Maurice Burton, Emma Pooley, Rebecca Romero and Paul Sherwer.

“Everyone here has had a huge impact on the history and growth of the sport”, said British Cycling President Bob Howden, reporting on the athletes’ experience, their achievements over the years and still classified Emma Pooley and Rebecca Romero as “ exceptional champions and equally fierce advocates of gender parity in sport.”

Bob Howden also congratulated Maurice Burton: “As Britain’s first black cycling champion, Maurice is one of our sport’s true pioneers whose inspiration and legacy continues to pave the way for others.” In 2010, for the first time, British Cycling announced the launch of its Hall of Fame and currently, it has around 65 existing members.
