Mercedes returns to use black for the new season of Formula 1

The act is a form of demonstration against racism

For the new season in 2023, Mercedes has decided to adopt the color black in its cars. At the press conference, the brand explained that the attitude is related to a campaign against racism and guaranteed that those who will command the model will be George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who played his 17th season.

Mercedes chief executive Toto Wolff said of the change: “When we look back at the history of the Silver Arrows, the Mercedes was white, but the paintwork was taken off and the car became lighter, and in aluminium. And we really tried to lighten the car, leaving it with more exposed carbon. In fact, we’ve had black cars in the last two years, it’s something that’s stuck. It felt right.”

Since 1950, Mercedes has always chosen to use the silver color in its cars and in 2010 when it returned as a team, it made some partnerships with McLaren that used metallic colors.
