First time: Tiffany Thomas wins Randall’s Island Criteriums in NY

The athlete has won first place 16 times

Last Sunday (19), for the first time, a trans woman won first place in Randall’s Island Criteriums competition that took place in New York. However, the conquest of Tiffany Thomas generated controversy due to her transformations, which led many spectators to demonstrate against the athlete’s victory.

“Those who make the transition from female to male are eligible to compete in the male category upon provision of a written and signed statement acceptable to the UCI Medical Manager. It is the athletes’ responsibility to be aware of current WADA/USADA policies and file for appropriate therapeutic use exemptions.”

Tiffany Thomas is a scientist and it was not the first time that she has achieved victories in her athletic career. According to the road results page, the cyclist has finished on the highest podium 16 times.

USA Cycling stated that it is “Committed to ensuring that all team members have equal access and opportunity to participate in cycling events in a manner that is fair to all competitors, while preserving the integrity of the sport and respecting international competition regulations”.
