“I didn’t really believe him. I kind of thought he would always go on, he’s had an amazing career and obviously he’s still racing now. He has yet to get that Tour record and hopefully win a stage here at the Giro d’Italia. I think we’ve known each other for about 25 years, which is crazy,” says Geraint Thomas.

The athlete reinforced the importance of Mark Cavendish’s career: “It’s an unbelievable career he had and I’m very proud to have been his teammate for a long time, helping him to win the world championship and that was great. He truly is the greatest sprinter of all time when you look at his record. It was an honor to ride with him. We’ve raced under-23s and juniors all over the world and gained a lot of experience together”.
