Last Tuesday (13th), through a document requested by the Alliance of Cyclists (TCA), the UCI was asked about the cancellation of the Tour de Pyrénées on the security issues that justified the Institution’s action. The request reinforces that “the procedure for evaluating the safety of the race was not clear” and that “the organizer’s responses to the concerns of the teams during the race appear, at times, dismissive and hypocritical”.

The Cyclists Alliance (TCA) reinforces in the document that the UCI needs to “improve the rigor applied in the event approval process, comply with the safety expectations established by the institution’s regulations”. In addition, there is a request for revisions to the protocols so that teams and athletes can have more independence over safety decisions.

The Tour Féminin des Pyrénées was part of the official UCI calendar and was scheduled to take place between the 9th and 11th of this month, however, the institution had to cancel the final stage of the competition, citing a lack of security due to the occurrences of the first days of the matches.
