Antonia Niedermaier wins stage five of the Giro d’Italia Donne

Annemiek van Vleuten remains in first place in the general classification

Last Tuesday (04), during the Giro d’Italia Donne, which is part of the Women’s World Tour, Antonia Niedermaier showed an excellent performance and won the fifth stage of the competition. With this achievement, the athlete remains in second place overall and leads the category of young pilots.

“I am very happy with this victory. I really can’t believe it! The pace on the first climb was very difficult, and I fell off the leaders. Fortunately, we had a good group and we worked to catch the leaders. I was so tired at the end that I didn’t hear anything from the crowd for the last few meters, I just wanted to cross the line”, said the consecrated athlete of Canyon – SRAM.

The cyclist continued explaining about her trajectory in the fifth stage of the competition: “I knew that if I wanted to try something, I just needed to go for it. I was happy to be able to pick my own lines on the descents, and I kept pushing the climbs. I felt really strong until the last 1.5km, which hurt like hell. I had the Sporting Directors in the car pushing me and giving me a lot of motivation.” The Giro d’Italia Donne started on the 30th of last month, remaining until July 9th, in Italy.
