“To be honest, I’m pretty devastated actually. For the past four months, everything has been geared towards that. I ran, I did some cool races, I trained really well and all the signs were pointing in the right direction. Maybe it’s a bit naive of me, actually, to think that I was more at the door than I really was”, said the cyclist during the podcast “Watts Occurring” in which he presents.

On possible projects, the Briton revealed that he will compete in small races at the end of the season, but provided more details. In addition, he commented that even though the news was a disappointment, he is rooting for the team to have a good result, even more so for having competitors with an excellent performance.

However, shortly after confirming that the athlete had not been chosen, Ineos Grenadiers revealed the choice for the competition that will be composed of: Geraint Thomas, Egan Bernal, Thymen Arensman, Jonathan Catroviejo, Laurens de Plus, Filippo Ganna and Kim Heiduk .

Geraint Thomas, upon hearing the news, reported in a statement that he was honored to occupy the leadership of the team, stating that he wants the best possible result for the team, achieving as many victories as possible in the competition. “Vuelta is a very difficult race this year. There’s actually something on most days, and a super hard backend to the race as well,” he said.
