“Many of the players play together all the time. Most of them play in Spain, most play in Barcelona and they play in the same style. So there is a deep philosophy about it”, said the athlete about Spain’s victory over England. Megan Rapinoe also commented on the act of prejudice and harassment committed by one of the most important personalities in football.

“It makes me think how much we are forced to endure. Think of how much the Spanish team has had to shoulder: some of the players who have stood up in the past to protest poor treatment by their coach and the federation are still not in the squad. Maybe that was something that galvanized them, but you shouldn’t have done that.”

The situation that happened last Sunday (20), during the delivery of medals, generated protests and negative demonstrations about the behavior of Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in which he unexpectedly kissed the player Jenni Hermoso. This event rekindled the public’s gaze on the machismo and misogyny that haunt the female category.

Megan Rapinoe and the US team were one of the main responsible for taking legal action against the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) in which she asked for respect for equal pay and better working conditions. The move inspired other teams to sue and get what they asked for.
