Lexi Thompson will become the seventh woman to compete in a PGA Tour event

American Golfer Lexi Thompson will become the seventh woman ever to compete in a PGA Tour event.

She will attend the Shriners Children’s Open next week, on October 12. She received an unrestricted sponsor exemption to make the 132-player field, and will compete for the $8.4 million prize purse. The event will occur at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Thompson joins the list of the only women to compete at a PGA Tour event, which includes Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Annika Sörenstam, Shirley Spork, Michelle Wie West, Suzey Whaley and Brittany Lincicome.

The American is an 11-time winner on the LPGA Tour, and also world No. 25. She impressed at the LPGA Tour’s Arkansas Championship, when secured a tied-8th finish, although she has not won on the circuit since her victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June 2019. Thompson won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2014.
