Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks could be facing a fine for helmet hit on 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

On Monday (23), Purdy took a significant blow to the head while running a sneak, and was struck by the helmet of Hicks. The hit could result in a fine, as the rules prohibit a player from lowering his head and making forcible contact with an opponent.

Hicks wasn’t flagged, as it often gets missed, especially when the blow is delivered by an offensive player. The pile-up of bodies makes it even more difficult for the referees to notice the lowering of the helmet or the forced contact in real time.
The hit was missed by the broadcast, even with the overhead vision showing Hicks hitting Purdy in the helmet, as the quarterback tried to secure a first down. On Wednesday (25), 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Purdy is in the concussion protocol. If Hicks is fined, the announcement will be on Saturday (28), by the NFL.
