Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has a “high chance” to play against Wolves on Saturday (28), says boss Eddie Howe.

Tonali received a 10 month ban from soccer by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on Thursday (26), for breaching betting rules. However, Howe explained this Friday (27) that the club are in “limbo”, since they are waiting confirmation of the ban. “We’ve heard the news, the statement, but we haven’t had anything from the Italian authorities at the moment”.

“I think there’s a high chance again that he could be available for us. I still think there are a few things that have to happen before the ban is imposed, so let’s see”, added Howe. The ban was not approved by governing bodies Uefa and Fifa yet.
Alongside the ban, Tonali has been fined 20,000 euros. The player and FIGC agreed to an 18-month disqualification, eight months of which will be commuted to “therapeutic plan”, helping him “recover from gambling addiction”. Reports suggest that the midfielder could continue to train with the team despite the ban, but Howe said that “we don’t know” if this is the case.
