Wembanyama surpasses LeBron in his first 55 games

When LeBron James debuted in the NBA in 2003, Victor Wembanyama had not even arrived in the world. The French rookie from the San Antonio Spurs played his first game in the league in 2023, and is already collecting numbers greater than that of the Los Angeles Lakers icon in his first 55 games.

As a result, at just 20 years old, the 2.25 meter tall sensation reaches an impressive average of 3.4 blocks per game, almost five times more than King James’ 0.7. In rebounding, Wemby has an average of 10.2, compared to LeBron’s 5.7.

When comparing the first 55 games of the two players, LeBron in the 2003 season and Wembanyama in 2023/24, the Spurs star wins in almost all statistics, except for assists and steals. The average points per match shows a balance: 20.9 x 20.4, for the Frenchman.

Although the athletes’ debuts in the NBA are separated by 20 years, the two started in the sport very early and with great promise.

At 17, James shined before the world by scoring 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a high school game, shown on American television.

The star opened doors for the new talents that would follow. Victor was runner-up in the French League at the age of 14, with JSF Nanterre, and was the number 1 pick in the 2023 Draft, at 19.

It’s worth remembering that at 39 years old, LeBron broke another record last Saturday, reaching 40,000 points in the NBA regular season. A little earlier, at the end of February, Wemby became the youngest player to achieve a 5×5 (five points in five statistics), in the confrontation against the Lakers.
