After seven months on the sidelines due to a serious injury, Thibaut Courtois returned to training at Real Madrid just over a week ago and was injured again.

The goalkeeper left training this Tuesday crying, according to the newspaper “Marca”. This afternoon, the Merengue club confirmed that the Belgian suffered a ruptured internal meniscus in his right knee.

With this, through his social networks, Courtois spoke for the first time about the new injury and classified it as a “setback”. The Belgian received several messages of support from teammates and former colleagues at Real Madrid, such as Vinicius Junior, Marcelo, Isco, Valverde, among others.

“Thank you everyone for the messages. Sad about an injury that is just a small setback that will make him come back much stronger. Feeling your support makes me cope much better”, says the caption of the publication.

It is worth remembering that, even before the first game of the 2023/2024 season, Courtois tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and had to undergo surgery.

The Belgian has been out since August 10th of last year and only returned to training with the group alongside Brazilian Éder Militão, who had the same injury, on March 8th of this year.

With the return to training, coach Carlo Ancelotti’s expectation was to have Courtois and Militão return to face Manchester City, in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

However, this Tuesday, the goalkeeper left Real Madrid training in tears due to pain in his right knee. After carrying out the necessary tests, the Spanish club confirmed Courtois’ new injury, but did not set a return date.

“Following the tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois, he was diagnosed with a rupture of the internal meniscus in his right knee. The injury occurred during training today. Progress pending”, says the Real Madrid statement.
