In the fight for the English title this season, Liverpool is already paving the way for the future after Jürgen Klopp’s departure. As a result, Amorim was being identified as one of the main candidates to replace Klopp, who has already announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season. Meetings this week would have brought the Portuguese closer to Anfield, to the point where the two parties reached a verbal agreement, according to “SKY”. The coach’s desire to manage the club would have weighed in on the negotiations.

According to the channel, there still remains the final stretch of negotiations between Liverpool and Sporting, with whom Rúben Amorim has a contract until June 2026. The Portuguese need to release the coach from the contract signed in 2022, and Liverpool would be seeking such an agreement – which could still be an impediment to hiring professionals.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, a transfer specialist, states that Amorim has a termination fine provided for in the contract: the value would be €30 million for Portuguese clubs and €20 million for teams outside the country. Liverpool’s aim would be to reach an agreement and pay €10 million.

Furthermore, Rúben Amorim has stood out in charge of Sporting, where he arrived in 2020, in the middle of the season, after starting his career as an assistant at Casa Pia and having a brief spell at Braga. In his second season at the Lisbon club, the former midfielder led Sporting to win the Portuguese title after a 19-year absence.

In the current season, the coach once again put Sporting in the fight for the national title. With six rounds to go, the club is the leader of the Portuguese league, four points ahead of Benfica (and one game less than its rival). With this, he entered the sights of European giants who are already looking for a coach for next season, such as Liverpool and Bayern.
