Last Saturday (08), during the Tour de France 2023, Mads Pederson won the eighth stage of the competition leaving behind Jasper Philipsen, Wout van Aert, Tadej Pogocar and Corbin Strong. The Lidl-Trek athlete has been demonstrating his excellent performance over the last few matches.
This time, the eighth leg started in Libourne, known for being one of the longest stages of the Tour de France. The phase had several setbacks that made some athletes leave the competition, mainly Mark Cavendish after having suffered a fall 62 km from the end of the race. Jayco AIUIa competitor Simon Yates also pulled out of the race after being crashed.
Mads Pederson commented on his victory and what his goals are for the upcoming races: “We didn’t know this morning if it was going to be an interval or a sprint. But it looked like the sprint teams didn’t want it to be a break so we stayed calm and the boys had a perfect day of preparation and even with the long sprint I still had legs to finish. When we passed I knew I had won but man it was a long race and that kick on the climb was so painful”.
