With the return to competition, after the day of rest, Wout van Aert commented on the false information and his team, Jumbo-Visma, also issued a statement in the face of the event. “I guess it’s not news to you that my wife is pregnant again and we are expecting a boy. I just had a quick call to my wife to check she’s ok and luckily she’s ok so I don’t know where she’s coming from. But I’m on the Tour and hopefully for as long as possible”, said the athlete.

The cyclist also spoke about the start of the rumors: “I have no idea where that kid got that. I have never talked with him. But I’ll ask him tomorrow. Maybe he wants me to go home. My team director informed me that the last part of the race, so I was a bit prepared for that. I was happy to be able to make the call and it was all just a rumour. Maybe there are some guys in the pack who want me to go home”.
