Last Saturday (15), during stage 13, Caleb Ewan left the Tour de France 2023 and was heavily criticized by his Lotto-Dstny team. According to released information, while he was at the start going up to the intermediate sprint of the day, the cyclist was seen holding his abdomen, indicating some discomfort.

After a few minutes, the vehicles indicated that the cyclist abandoned the competition. However, the athlete’s attitude left the team surprised and Stéphanie Heulot, manager of Lotto-Dstny, gave statements criticizing what had happened in the competition. “We expected more. We saw in the last sprint that he was no longer there”, said the businesswoman to the newspaper L’Equipe.

“His leader was right beside him. That’s disrespectful to your leader. I cannot accept this. Leaders take crazy risks by being there. I can’t do anything, it’s up to him to sort it out, I don’t know how to deal with this type of character, I’ve never seen that”, said Stéphanie Heulot, manager of Lotto-Dstny.

While the businesswoman responded to the press about what had happened, Caleb Ewan, through social networks, took a position explaining the reason for leaving the Tour de France 2023: “Leaving the Tour is a shame. I want to express my gratitude to the team for their great support and I hope they can still show some good things in the next stages”.
