Wout van Aert returns to training for the European Road Championships

Recently, through social media, Jumbo-Visma had announced that Wout van Aert would be out of the Super 8 Classic with the justification that he was “not completely in shape”. However, now, the situation seems to be changing, as, last Tuesday (19), the cyclist returned to training for the UEC European Road Championships.

According to Jumbo-Visma’s national coach, Sven Vanthourenhout, the athlete had an illness but did not specify details of what could have happened. “Wout was off the bike for a day or two. These were not crucial training days, but, of course, illness is never the ideal scenario. Recovery always takes energy,” he told newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

In the interview, the former cyclist reported that Wout van Aert will have different training from previous ones, mainly from what was carried out for the intense races of the UCI World Championship, which took place last month in Glasgow, and stated that the athlete is prepared to perform positively.

“A choice will always be made that cannot be estimated in advance. I have a clear idea about where the cards lie at the moment, but the race could always decide differently. We will make a good deal between the two honest guys that I know will often participate in championships together in the future”, reported Sven Vanthourenhout.

Apparently, Wout van Aert and Arnaud De Lie will be the leaders of the team made up of Jasper De Buyst, Tim Declercq, Yves Lampaert, Jasper Stuyven, Edward Theuns and Florian Vermeersch. The road race competition circuit will run from Assen to Col du VAM, with seven hill climbs.
