“The club is above all”, says Luis Enrique about Mbappé’s likely departure

Mbappé’s likely departure from PSG at the end of the season, information published by several European outlets, became the big topic of coach Luis Enrique’s press conference this Friday (16), the day before the clash against Nantes.

As a result, the Spanish coach avoided commenting on the rumor, indicating that he would wait for official statements, but gave a brief message saying that “‘the club is above everything”.

“Until the parties involved speak, I will not say anything. And the parties involved have not spoken. Nothing has come out publicly from Mbappé or the club. When they speak, I will give my opinion. The team is above all the players, the club is above everything, of all individualities”, said the coach

The coach of the Parisian team was also asked about Mbappé a few more times. First, he answered whether the training environment this Friday had been different due to the news the day before, and highlighted that it was “normal training”.

He also said that he is thinking about the team’s present and immediate future, when asked if he would already look for options for Mbappé. And he also answered whether the soap opera could change the direction of the final stretch of the season for Paris.

“It doesn’t worry me at all. To sit here, you have to have personality and know that there are always rumors. It’s not serious. You receive criticism, praise, everything that’s normal. And controversy too, we know. Those who don’t like it can’t be at a club like ours.”

It is worth remembering that yesterday (15), Mbappé informed the Paris Saint-Germain board that he will leave the club at the end of his contract, in June, according to different French press outlets published on Thursday. After that, newspapers and websites in other countries reported that PSG confirmed the striker’s statement to the club.

According to the broadcaster “RMC”, Mbappé fulfilled a promise to the president of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, that the director would be the first to know whether he would stay at the club or not.
